What is Angilock 50mg?
Angilock 50mg Tablets contains losartan potassium 50mg, a medicine belonging to the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) class. It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and may also be prescribed for certain patients with heart or kidney-related conditions.
Losartan works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to narrow. By preventing angiotensin II from acting on its receptors, losartan allows blood vessels to relax and widen. This lowers blood pressure and reduces the workload on the heart.
What is Angilock 50mg used for?
Angilock 50mg is primarily prescribed for:
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Reduction of cardiovascular risk in selected patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy
- Certain patients with type 2 diabetes and diabetic kidney disease, where losartan may help protect kidney function as part of an appropriate treatment plan.
How does Losartan work?
Losartan blocks angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors. Angiotensin II normally causes blood vessels to constrict and promotes processes that can increase blood pressure.
By blocking its action, losartan causes blood vessels to relax, helping blood flow more easily and lowering blood pressure.
Losartan also reduces the effects of aldosterone, a hormone involved in sodium and fluid retention. This contributes to its blood-pressure-lowering effect.
