Microgynon Fe Tablets 28s are a combined oral contraceptive used primarily for the prevention of pregnancy. The pack contains 28 tablets: 21 active beige tablets, each containing levonorgestrel 150 micrograms and ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms, followed by 7 inactive brown tablets. The inactive tablets contain ferrous fumarate.
Microgynon Fe belongs to the combined hormonal contraceptive group because it contains both an oestrogen and a progestogen. It is taken every day, allowing the user to maintain a continuous daily tablet-taking routine
How does Microgynon Fe work?
Microgynon Fe contains two active hormones:
Levonorgestrel 150 micrograms is a progestogen that contributes to contraceptive effectiveness.
Ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms is an oestrogen that works together with levonorgestrel to suppress ovulation.
Combined hormonal contraceptives primarily prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation. They also produce changes in cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to pass through the cervix.
