Product Overview
Benzathine Penicillin 2.4 Million IU Injection is a long-acting penicillin antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections and prevent selected recurrent infections. It contains benzathine benzylpenicillin, also known as benzathine penicillin G, formulated as a powder that is reconstituted to form an injectable suspension.
Active Ingredient
Benzathine benzylpenicillin 2.4 million IU per vial.
How It Works
Benzathine penicillin slowly releases benzylpenicillin after intramuscular injection. The antibiotic binds to penicillin-binding proteins in susceptible bacteria, inhibiting the cross-linking of peptidoglycan in their cell walls. This weakens the bacterial cell wall and leads to bacterial death. Its slow absorption helps maintain antibiotic levels for an extended period.
