Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, swelling and stiffness associated with inflammatory and degenerative joint conditions.
Uses and indications
Meloxicam is primarily used to help relieve the signs and symptoms of:
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Ankylosing spondylitis and other inflammatory musculoskeletal conditions where prescribed
It helps reduce joint pain, swelling and stiffness, which may improve mobility and everyday functioning.
How meloxicam works
During inflammation, the body produces prostaglandins that contribute to pain, swelling and inflammation. Meloxicam inhibits cyclo-oxygenase enzymes involved in prostaglandin production. By reducing these inflammatory mediators, meloxicam helps decrease pain and inflammation.
