Overview
Betafen Plus Syrup 100ml is an oral combination medicine containing ibuprofen and paracetamol. It is used for symptomatic relief of pain and fever, with ibuprofen also providing anti-inflammatory action. It is prescribed for pain associated with toothache, period pain, musculoskeletal disorders, injuries, headache and fever.
Active Ingredients
Ibuprofen and paracetamol are the active ingredients.
Ibuprofen: A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that relieves pain, reduces inflammation and lowers fever.
Paracetamol: An analgesic and antipyretic that relieves pain and reduces fever.
Mechanism of Action: How It Works
Paracetamol: Acts primarily in the central nervous system to reduce pain and lower elevated body temperature. Its exact mechanism is not fully understood, but it is thought to involve modulation of prostaglandin-related pathways and the brain's temperature-regulating centre.
Ibuprofen: Inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes, reducing the production of prostaglandins. These chemical mediators contribute to pain, inflammation and fever. Lower prostaglandin production therefore helps relieve pain, reduce inflammation and lower temperature.
Combined action: The two ingredients provide complementary pain-relieving and fever-reducing effects.
