Overview
Benaworm (Albendazole) 10 mL is an oral anthelmintic medicine used to treat certain infections caused by parasitic worms. It contains albendazole, a benzimidazole-class antiparasitic medicine that acts against susceptible intestinal worms.
Intestinal worm infections can occur when people ingest worm eggs or larvae through contaminated food, water, soil or unwashed hands. Depending on the parasite involved, infection may cause abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, reduced appetite or other symptoms. Some infections may produce few noticeable symptoms.
Active ingredient and how it works
The active ingredient is albendazole, an antiparasitic medicine.
Albendazole works by interfering with the formation of microtubules in susceptible parasites. This disrupts their ability to take up glucose and maintain essential cellular functions, eventually causing the parasites to lose energy and die.
The medicine is effective against several intestinal worms, but its effectiveness depends on the parasite species and the prescribed treatment regimen.
