Normal Saline Nasal Drops 15ml are saline-based nasal drops designed to moisturise and cleanse the nasal passages. They contain a salt-water solution that can help loosen mucus and relieve discomfort associated with nasal dryness or congestion
What are Normal Saline Nasal Drops used for?
Normal saline nasal drops can be used to:
- Relieve nasal dryness
- Moisturise dry nasal passages
- Help loosen thick or dried mucus
- Relieve mild nasal congestion
- Help clear mucus from the nose
- Support nasal hygiene
They may be particularly useful during colds and upper respiratory tract infections, when increased mucus can make breathing through the nose difficult.
Saline drops may also be useful when dry air or environmental conditions cause nasal dryness and irritation.
How do Normal Saline Nasal Drops work?
Saline nasal drops work primarily through a physical cleansing and moisturising action.
The saline solution helps add moisture to the nasal lining and can soften thick or dried mucus. Once the mucus becomes less sticky, it can be cleared more easily by blowing the nose or, in young children, through gentle nasal suction where appropriate.
Because saline drops do not contain a conventional nasal decongestant such as xylometazoline or oxymetazoline, they do not produce the same rebound congestion associated with prolonged use of some medicated decongestant sprays or drops
Common side effects
Normal saline nasal drops are generally well tolerated.
Some people may experience:
- Temporary nasal irritation
- Mild stinging
- Sneezing
- Temporary watery nasal discharge
These effects are usually mild and short-lived.
Stop using the product and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling, difficulty breathing or another significant reaction occurs
