Medi-Keel A Original Throat Lozenges 16’s are medicated lozenges indicated for the symptomatic relief of sore throat. Each lozenge contains benzocaine 12 mg and cetylpyridinium chloride 1.5 mg. The product is classified as a surface anaesthetic, with benzocaine providing local anaesthetic action and cetylpyridinium chloride providing antiseptic activity.
How Medi-Keel A works
Benzocaine is a local anaesthetic. When the lozenge dissolves slowly in the mouth, benzocaine produces a temporary numbing effect on the irritated throat tissues, helping reduce the sensation of soreness and discomfort.
Cetylpyridinium chloride is a quaternary ammonium antiseptic. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties and acts locally in the mouth and throat. Some microorganisms may be resistant to its action.
The lozenge therefore provides both local anaesthetic relief and antiseptic action, making it suitable for symptomatic management of sore throat.
