What is Tricohist Syrup 60ml?
Tricohist Syrup 60ml is a combination oral medicine . It contains several active ingredients intended to relieve selected respiratory symptoms associated with colds, allergies and coughs.
Active ingredients
Diphenhydramine hydrochloride 5mg: An antihistamine that helps reduce symptoms such as sneezing and a runny nose. It can cause drowsiness.
Promethazine hydrochloride 2.5mg: An antihistamine that helps relieve allergy-related symptoms and may cause sedation.
Ephedrine hydrochloride 7.5mg: A sympathomimetic medicine that can help relieve nasal congestion but may increase heart rate and blood pressure.
Ammonium chloride 90mg: An expectorant ingredient traditionally used to help loosen respiratory mucus.
Sodium citrate 45mg: An ingredient used in expectorant formulations to support mucus clearance.
How Tricohist works
Tricohist combines ingredients that work through different mechanisms. Diphenhydramine and promethazine block histamine H1 receptors, reducing some allergy symptoms such as sneezing and a runny nose. Their antihistamine action can also cause sleepiness.
Ephedrine stimulates alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors, helping reduce swelling in nasal passages but potentially increasing blood pressure and heart rate. Ammonium chloride is used as an expectorant to assist mucus clearance, while sodium citrate is included in the formulation as an additional expectorant ingredient.
The combined effect is intended to relieve several respiratory symptoms. However, the combination may not be appropriate for every patient, particularly those with cardiovascular conditions or those taking medicines that cause sedation.
